Adventures at D23

Sun Sep 13, 2009, 12:17 PM
So I'm finally back from my first ever convention. Overall it was great, it would've been fantastic had I not been a bit sick. Now I'll try my best to explain what I did there because a lot happened

Anyways, where do I start.

Well the first thing I checked out was the Disney Parks and Resorts Exhibit that showed future projects for Disney Theme Parks.

At the exhibit there was a model for the Cars Land expansion at Disney's California Adventure. Disney's opening a Hotel Resort in Hawaii apparently too. Hong Kong Disneyland is getting a Haunted Mansion type ride called "Mystic Manor".

I had just enough time to check out the "Treasures of the Disney Archives" Exhibit. This was one of highlights of my trip.

There were costumes and props galore! Michael Jackson's "Captain EO" costume, Tron's costume, Walt Disney's desk, Julie Andrews' Mary Poppins costume, the scale model of the Nautilus used for the filming of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, and even the costumes and props found from the Pirates of the Carribean films were all some of the wonders found there.

Outside the exhibit was good ol' Herbie. Luckily me and my older sister got a picture with him ^___^

So the two of us headed off to the first event: The Snow White panel and screening. This was another highlight. We sat through a very cool panel discussion on the making of the film with Don Hahn (The producer for Beauty and the Beast), Eric Goldberg (The Animator for Genie in Aladdin), and get this...Snow White's Live Action Reference Model.

That was a huge surprise to the both of us. She even got a standing ovation from the crowd of fans as well as myself and my older sister.

After the panel, the film began and I started to relive old memories. It was great. Of course I couldn't stay for long since the Princess and the Frog panel was about an hour away and I wanted to get a good spot in line.

So we left early only to find that the line for the Princess and the Frog panel was twice the size as the Snow White panel was. It was insane. The panel was supposed to begin at about 3:00. We didn't get inside until 4:00. But was the wait worth it?

Definitely. This panel was the best highlight of the day and it was a fantastic closure to my first convention. After all it was a Sneak Peak. The host of the panel thanked all the fans in the theatre for being patient.

The lights went down and boom...we got to see the full musical number for Dr. Facilier "I Got Friends on the Other Side". Wow...I haven't seen a musical number for a Disney film so fresh and exciting since "Friend Like Me". Not to mention that the animation was fantastic.

Once it ended, the lights came on and the host of the panel began introducing not just the Directors, but all the major animators of the film.

Once the host announced Ron Clements and John Musker, my sister shouted "Woo!". I couldn't help but giggle because Ron had turned his head to see who had shouted it.

So the Directors talked about how they pitched the story to John Lasseter. Then the Storyboard Artist re-enacted a scene storyboarded exclusively from the movie for us. There were plenty of laughs and applause going around.

We also got to see some rough animation scenes with test voices. They were just as good looking as the Exclusive Comic-Con footage.

Then something even better happened. The animators drew the characters for us. Eric Goldberg drew Louis the Jazz Playing Aligator, Bruce Smith drew Dr. Facilier, Randy Fullmer drew Naveen in both his Human form and his Frog form, and then we had Andres Maja draw Mama Odie.

Well overall, that's how the day had gone. It was a lot of fun and If I get the chance, I'll go again next year.

NOTE: I'll post the pictures from my trip once my sister sends me the photos. We took a couple of pics that many of you might find really interesting.

District 9

Sun Sep 6, 2009, 6:38 PM
Okay...so I saw "District 9" a couple of days ago and I still cannot get over how good it was.

Out of all the films that were released so far this year, "District 9", in terms of quality, is this year's Dark Knight. I flipping love this movie to death. I loved it mainly for how original it was.

I mean, I've ended up liking most of the movies that have been released this year. But this is really the only one I've ended up LOVING. But what made this movie so good was how original the story was and how much it made me care for the characters.

Not to mention, for only having a 30 million dollar budget, it was amazing how much they were able to do. The effects, the cinemetography, and the score are all fantastic. Not only that, but the actors, who are extremely unknown, put up some of the best performances I've seen in a movie in a while. Especially the actor who plays Wikus, the main character.

"District 9" pretty much is the reason why I love film and why I want to pursue a career as a Film Director. Not to mention it reminds me so much of one of my favorite films "The Fly".

Bottom line: Go see it. Now. 5/5 for me.

D23 Expo and Other Things...

Sun Aug 30, 2009, 3:43 PM
Yo guys, FanOingo here again, just giving a small update on things.

Anyways first update is this: I'll be going to the D23 Expo on Friday, September 11th. So for anyone going to the expo that day, feel free to look for me XD

Next up are what's going on with my projects. Currently I'm working on a full movie fandub for Studio Ghibli's "Tales from Earthsea" That's been put on hold though because my computer broke and I had lost all my files.

The biggest project I'm working on at the moment is "Gurren Lagann: The Abriged Series" Hopefully Episode 1 will premiere this September.

I'm also currently writing a screenplay for a new film I want to work on. The working title is "Dream Catcher". Here is a synopsis:

For 30 year old Emma Elric, life seems to have passed by too fast. Emma begins to dream of how her life would've been if she had lived life the way it played out in her fantasies. Unsatisfied with how her life turned out, Emma is given one last chance to go back and relive her life.

However, Emma soon starts to realize that her new life seems to be nothing more than another fantasy that she dreamed up and becomes trapped within the outer limits of reality and her dreams.

Now its a race against time as Emma struggles to overcome the bounderies of reality and fantasy before she becomes stuck within another Fairy Tale she dreamed up.

The new movie is a dark fantasy/romance film and I hope for it to start production so that it may come out this Holiday Season.

Anyways, that's all the updates I can give right now. So until then, see ya.
